City Ventures is looking for a highly motivated self-starter to assist with processing existing development pursuits. The position is focused on the ground-up development of market-rate residential and mixed-use projects. The ideal applicant has 1-4 years of experience, enjoys complex puzzles with multiple moving parts, commits to a sustainable vision for construction, and has an eye for high quality design.  The Development Associate will be expected to travel locally to meet with municipalities and visit job sites.

The Development Associate reports to the Senior Vice President of Development.  (S)he assists with all aspects of development, from due diligence through construction.


  • Strategically outlines the development process by:
    • Working with City and Agency Staff to understand the timeline, fees, and stakeholders who will influence and control development projects
    • Reading and understanding local zoning codes, municipal codes, and state laws as pertain to the development project
    • Contracting, negotiating with, and working with design and diligence consultants such as engineers, architects, arborists, noise consultants, and CEQA consultants
  • Entitles projects by:
    • Coordinating the design team to bring submittals to “deemed complete” status
    • Requesting, reviewing, and organizing contracts, purchase orders, and invoices
    • Creating compelling presentation and graphic material
    • Organizing and facilitating community meetings and open houses to obtain input from neighbors, key community groups, and local stakeholders
  • Assists with construction by:
    • Preparing and implementing project timelines
    • Coordinating the design team through all types of city and agency permits
    • Working with City staff to obtain all necessary sign offs and approvals
    • Coordinating with the construction manager on implementing city and agency requirements
    • Assisting the coordination of RFI’s and Submittals
    • Obtaining Department of Real Estate reports for marketing and sales

Experience & Requirements:

  • 1-4 years development experience in residential or mixed-use, or commensurate related experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience with Bay Area permitting/zoning/entitlement process preferred
  • Experience tracking budget versus proforma, change orders, construction reports, etc
  • Team-oriented, shows ownership of assigned tasks; works well independently and with a team
  • Creative with a proven track record for problem solving
  • Organization and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and set appropriate expectations for deliverables and timelines
  • Strong interpersonal skills & presentation skills are required
