JOB SUMMARY:

The Head of Development will be part of a growing team of professionals focused on the development of properties in Charleston, SC. The candidate will have direct responsibility for managing all development aspects of the property, and will work closely with the partnership to assemble the appropriate teams to manage the project. The candidate will have direct responsibility for managing ground-up development projects and major adaptive re-use projects. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

       Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred in Development, Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering or a related field of study from an accredited university; and
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience developing projects from land acquisition through construction of multiple product types. Development experience as the Principal or development partner is essential. 
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Construction experience in either ground-up or adaptive re-use is beneficial

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage development through completion, including working closely with the partnership in:  selection of design team, zoning, community engagement, design management, budget oversight, underwriting and execution of the project.  The Head of Development will ensure that the vision and the program are executed successfully. 
  • Provide leadership and management oversight for team members on the project.
  • Create and manage development plans, targets and reviews of their direct reports. 
  • Work closely with the partnership to develop and execute staffing plans and budgets, and manage the annual forecast and quarterly updates. 
  • Develop a strong and positive relationship with community and municipal leaders and departments, particularly those groups with influence with respect to entitlements efforts.  
  • Support and lead as required leasing efforts during the development phase

       

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

       Knowledge of:

  • Development, zoning process, community outreach, design management, budgeting and execution, 
  • Experience with AIA contracts, property management, and construction management.
  • Brownfield sites and pursuit of both state and federal tax credits

Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, travel, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines or attend special events.
