Controller
Based in Boston, Lighthouse Real Estate is a family office for off-shore capital. Lighthouse makes real estate investments across the risk spectrum. To date, we have committed approximately $1 Billion in equity invested in 20 assets located throughout the United States. Lighthouse is in a dynamic growth phase as we continue to seek additional investments. We are currently recruiting for an experienced real estate accounting professional to fill the position of Controller to help the company meet the accounting and reporting demands of our firm’s growing portfolio. Key responsibilities will include:
- Overall accounting responsibility for the portfolio and operating entities
- Responsible for preparation of financial statements for Lighthouse
- Maintain an effective system of internal financial controls
- Monitor and oversee banking activities including the proper security structure across multiple banks
- Coordinate the movement of funds into the US for investments and out from the US for distributions and other purposes
- Working with the Lighthouse team located off-shore, assist in the financial and tax planning for Lighthouse including calculating and implementing distributions and internal reporting
- Establish relationships with property managers/operating partners clearly defining financial reporting requirements.
- In collaboration with property managers, maintain on-line asset management database (RealPage)
- Provide leadership in the review of monthly, quarterly and annual property accounting reports from property managers and operating partners, including year to date and reforecast cash flow and property NOI results and projections
- Participate in tax and financial structuring of investments
- Assist in the establishment and review of cash flow and capital call projections and monitor the projections once established
- Manage the relationships and processes with the external audit and tax professionals to ensure the timely completion of all audits and tax compliance (K-1s and tax returns) requirements
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting under mortgages and credit facilities
- Participate in the acquisition due diligence process and on-boarding of operating partners/property managers
SKILLS
- Professional individual with solid communication skills and an energetic attitude
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, have excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of income tax-basis reporting, fund accounting and complex legal entity structures
EDUCATION and/or RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar area
- At least 8 years’ experience in public/private real estate accounting environment, CPA preferred
- Familiarity with structuring investments including to ensure tax efficiency
- Strong skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and ideally Quickbooks
