Position Overview:

As the senior financial resource of the Division, you will report to the Co-President of Rental and work dotted line with the Corporate Head Office Canadian Accounting Team to operate and grow Empire Communities’ Rental Division.  This role is responsible for both Division-level and project level accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with and provide financial analysis to the Co-Presidents on key business initiatives to optimize Division operations
  • Supervise the monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules to be submitted to the corporate accounting team
  • Review of rental contracts for risk management and financial considerations prior to acceptance
  • Evaluation of purchase agreements against proforma
  • Maintain monthly accounting records for the Division
  • Responsible for month-end closing process including journal entries, standard reporting package, account reconciliations, and KPI tracking
  • Analyze monthly statement in terms of key issues in sales, costs, productivity, and margins
  • Lead and coordinate operation’s annual planning process, quarterly forecasts, and monthly forecasting
  • Prepare ad hoc management reports as needed
  • Evaluate current procedures and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, procedures and internal controls are in place for the division
  • Maintain business knowledge and relationships through regular contact with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit monthly loan draws
  • Ensure timely vendor payments for project services

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of public accounting experience required; must have a strong auditing background
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of Big 4 experience highly preferable
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; must be proficient with advanced functions.
  • Real estate industry/REIT experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Yardi Voyager preferred and/or Newstar accounting software
