We are currently seeking an Assistant Portfolio Manager to join the company in our West Hartford, CT office.

 

Characteristics of the Candidate:

 

The Assistant Portfolio Manager will be a key member of the team and work directly with the company’s Head of Portfolio Management.  The candidate should be self-motivated, organized, analytical, proactive, versatile, and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Assistant Portfolio Manager will support the Portfolio Management team to direct strategy implementation for each managed investment vehicle.  In that role, the Assistant Portfolio Manager will provide portfolio analytics, work diligently to improve overall fund performance, support regulatory compliance efforts, monitor implementation of sustainability programs, assist in capital-raising, support investor relations, and coordinate quarterly reporting.

The primary responsibilities include:


Portfolio Analysis 

  • Work with Accounting and Asset Management to provide forecasts for each portfolio.
  • Critically evaluate property performance data across multiple variables to create an analysis of asset and fund-level performance.
  • Maintain portfolio and fund-level performance metrics.
  • Track and analyze asset and fund information and investor performance for company investment funds, including internal rate of return, time-weighted returns, and other performance metrics.
  • Compile and maintain databases on economic, demographic, and comparable trends for the company’s target markets.


Investor Relations, Capital Raising, and Reporting

  • Coordinate with the technology team to maintain and update the company website, including the investor portal.
  • Assist in executing investor and Advisory Committee meetings through the preparation of investment materials, financial analyses, and meeting logistics.
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual client reports, including fund and portfolio updates, individual asset summaries, and market research.
  • Prepare marketing-related materials for investors and prospective investors, including corporate overviews, fund updates, and marketing materials.
  • Prepare materials for ongoing investor correspondence and performance analysis, including client calls, quarterly investor questionnaires, and data requests such as realized returns, projected cash flows, and historical performance.

 

Portfolio Management

  • Work with the Head of Portfolio Management to help inform transaction decisions and implementation.
  • Work with Asset Management with respect to business plan execution and collection of information to articulate strategy and status internally and externally to investors.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for investment activity pipeline, property development and sustainability analysis, investor requests, and portfolio risk assessments.
  • Facilitate various fund projects, and prepare ad-hoc analysis and management reports.
  • Prepare portfolio performance analyses relative to investment objectives and benchmark indices.
  • Assist the Head of Portfolio Management in the overall management of the Fund business.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience

 

Candidates must have a BA with experience in commercial real estate fund management. An advanced degree and/or professional designation is helpful but not required. The successful candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience in commercial real estate investment.

 Skills and Competencies:
 

  • A passion for real estate investment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Overall knowledge and understanding of institutional investment in real estate.
  • Experience in portfolio management, asset management, capital markets, or acquisitions is essential for this position.
  • High level of competence in financial modeling utilizing ARGUS and Excel software.
  • Proficiency in computer applications skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Should be a curious, creative, analytic and a numbers oriented thinker.
  • Ability to work seamlessly on multiple projects and tasks.
  • Team oriented and willing to perform tasks outside his or her primary job description.
  • Self-motivated and energetic.
