The Rose Companies Sustainability Intern will be involved with designing and implementing environmental impact strategies across corporate functions and the real estate portfolio. The Sustainability Intern will assess best practices across the real estate industry to advise on and implement sustainable business practices in collaboration with other departments. The Sustainability Intern will also be involved in green renovation activities across the real estate portfolio including developing scope, securing utility rebates, review and development of building manuals, and assisting on green certification efforts in close collaboration with property staff, consultants, and contractors assigned to retrofit projects. The intern will work closely with the Director of Environmental Impact to ensure that all work remains on schedule, desired goals are achieved, and certifications and project deliverables are met.

As part of this endeavor, we are seeking a Sustainability Spring Intern who will represent the financial goals and social and environmental mission of Rose companies in assisting with the following functions:

 

  • Research best practices across the real estate sector and other leading industries to benchmark internal company sustainability and environmental policies. Work with Director of Environmental Impact to draft new green company policies and review existing policies for improvements.
  • Develop market landscape of corporate sustainability management tools to recommend or develop tool for tracking company greenhouse gas emissions. Assess carbon footprint and develop long term road map toward zero emissions.
  • Identify, develop, compile, and organize submittals and documentation required for certification and ongoing green operations. Track action items from meetings and events which may include following up directly, or insuring the follow up of others, compiling or exchanging information and contacts, tracking issues, and providing other assistance.
  • Conduct research to identify and vet healthy building materials, low carbon building products, best practices, and new sustainability technologies.

Oversee aspects of multiple green retrofit projects across nationwide portfolio, working with Director of Sustainability, property staff, facilities management, asset management, engineers, architects, contractors, consultants, vendors, and utilities as needed to implement property improvements and achieve certifications.

 

Education, Work Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate should currently be enrolled in a master’s program, demonstrate strong leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Candidates should have strong organizational, analytical, leadership, verbal and written communication skills.  Education or experience in the disciplines of sustainability (or related) and/or real estate preferred.
