The Project Accountant will fill a key role within the construction/accounting group. This person will report to the VP of CapEx, and the CFO. The individual must have a strong understanding of Construction accounting, working knowledge of AIA forms, construction disbursement systems, GAAP, and at least four years in construction/cost accounting field. The individual will fit well in an environment that rewards bright, self-motivated, energetic, focused individuals in an ever-increasing responsibility and challenge. This individual will support various aspects of the financial cycle including, but not limited to, assisting with month-end closing process, monitoring various metrics of the business to aide in daily operational decisions, including inventory. This individual will also be handling general accounting responsibilities, and management reporting.   Essential Job Functions:
  • Compile submitted payment requests from subcontractors and suppliers, compare to Job Cost reports and include applicable amounts for general conditions and fees to produce a payment request to be submitted to owner. Reconcile current request for owner payment to previous submissions.
  • Obtain releases of liens from all suppliers and subcontractors for previous month s payment before issuing checks for further payment. Maintain log on progress payments and release of liens.
  • Maintain ongoing record of retainage being held on subcontracts/vendors. Review contracts for release of retainage and notify Project Manager of any upcoming releases.
  • Monitor special payment arrangements to assure that time-sensitive payments are made on time.
  • Provide financial and accounting information as requested.
  • Enter owner change orders, changes to estimates, subcontracts, subcontractor change orders and purchase orders.
  • Assist with monthly preparation of Work In Progress report to include contract value reconciliation and estimated cost projection.
  • Perform Job close out duties, including reconciling commitments, archiving files and closing the job in the system.
  • Provide A/R Collection information to management. Assist project manager with collection effort to ensure timely payment from client.
Education and Experience Background:
  • Bachelor s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, CPA helpful
  • 4-7 years of related experience, 4 of which must be in construction/cost
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required:
  • Strong capacity for research and problem solving
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, Yardi accounting Software
  • Excellent organization, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Experience with account reconciliation & account analysis
