Development Associate/Project Manager

This positions’s primary role will be to assist the Director of Taft Development Group (a Division of Taft Family Ventures) with all tasks related to site entitlement, site development, and construction. The Real Estate Development Associate will contribute to the company’s success by providing support to the strategic planning, project management, and financial oversight of development projects.  

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Communicate all issues and risks effecting the projects
• Communicate project status to project participants and stakeholders accurately and on time
• Work efficiently in a large team of professional consultants to ensure effective project delivery
• Create site development and construction budgets and monitor for variance
• Support development efforts by working closely with other departments to determine most effective processes and tools
• Assist in the management of the due diligence process in order to ensure that all development risks are identified and quantified
• Assist in the management of the approval and permitting phase of the development process and ensure approvals are in line with company requirements
• Assist with the detailed design phase of the projects, ensuring strict adherence to corporate specifications and attention to cost management
• Assist in the management of the bidding, negotiations and construction contract process
• Monitor general contractor and vendor performance during the construction phase
• Ensure that the projected expenditure is under constant review and any anticipated deviations are highlighted and controlled
• Ensure that construction projects are in line with current health & safety laws and internal company requirements  

 

Required Skills and Experience

• 3-5 years of experience and a BA/BS degree in Business, Real Estate, Construction Management, Urban Planning or a BA/BS in an unrelated field but with equivalent work experience
• Ability to work independently and react quickly in a demanding fast-paced environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, balance priorities and deadlines
• Ability to interact with diverse individuals and develop solutions to problems
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships across all levels
• Overnight travel is required (30-40%)
